RCS (Rich Communication Services) chat is a messaging protocol that provides an upgraded, rich messaging experience compared to SMS or MMS. RCS offers features such as typing indicators, read receipts, high-quality media sharing, group chats, and real-time typing indicators. RCS messages are sent with the Rich Communication Services (RCS) protocol over Wi-Fi and mobile data. RCS messaging works on all Android phones, and it is intended to replace SMS and MMS messages on Android devices. RCS chats will be turned on only when all the participants in a conversation have RCS. RCS chats are provided by Google or your mobile carrier. To turn on RCS chats, you need to verify your phone number and ensure that your carrier and device are set up for RCS chats. RCS messages youve sent are darker blue than SMS or MMS messages. If your conversation’s compose bar displays “RCS message," your messages are sent with Rich Communication Services (RCS).
