Red Ribbon Week is an annual event that takes place from October 23rd through 31st each year. It is the nations largest and longest-running substance use prevention campaign, and it aims to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promote a drug-free lifestyle. The National Family Partnership (NFP) sponsors the Red Ribbon Week Theme Contest each year, and the winning theme is used for the campaign. The theme for Red Ribbon Week 2023 is "Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free". The theme was submitted by Danielle Helm, a Youth Service Coordinator from Russell County Middle School in Kentucky, and it was chosen because it encourages individuals to do their part in keeping their communities safe, healthy, and drug-free. During Red Ribbon Week, youth and adults around the nation pledge to increase their knowledge by learning more about the destructive effects of drug abuse, including prescription drug misuse, and renew their commitment to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Schools, communities, and organizations across the country participate in Red Ribbon Week by organizing events, activities, and campaigns to promote drug prevention and awareness.
