Reincarnation is a central tenet of Hinduism, which is the religious or philosophical belief that the soul or spirit, after biological death, begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal, or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous lifes actions. The entire universal process that gives rise to the cycle of death and rebirth, governed by karma, is referred to as “Samsara” .

According to Hindu scriptures, individual souls pass through many cycles of births and deaths until they are liberated from the bonds of nature through the true knowledge of the self or soul. The impressions called “sanskaras” of our actions make a lasting impression on the mind. When a person is about to die, the soul carries with it a small residue consisting of dominant desires and tendencies as latent impressions. They become the reference for the soul’s next birth. In other words, in the final moments of life, the soul carries with it the sum total of its experiences and actions, which determine the nature of the next birth.

In Hinduism, the ultimate goal of life is to achieve liberation from the cycle of birth and death, which is known as “Moksha.” Moksha is a term in Hinduism that refers to the various forms of liberation or release that occur when the cycle of dying and rebirth ends. It is believed that the soul is freed from the cycle of birth and death when it attains Moksha.
