Remeron is a brand name for the antidepressant medication mirtazapine). It is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults). Mirtazapine works by restoring the balance of natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain. It can improve mood, feelings of well-being, sleep, and appetite in patients while also decreasing nervousness. The medication is taken orally, usually once daily at bedtime, with or without food as directed by a doctor. The dosage is based on the patients medical condition and response to treatment. It is important to follow the medication guide provided by the pharmacist and to not take more of the drug than prescribed. Mirtazapine should also never be taken with other antidepressants, specifically Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), as each substance increases the sedative effects of the other.
