Remnant is a term used in the Five Nights at Freddys series to describe a metallic substance that can be used to trap souls in inanimate objects, making it a driving force behind the paranormal occurrences in the series. According to a theory, remnant is a plasma-like substance that contains the soul of a single being, and every time a person dies, they release a small amount of remnant. Remnant is also described as the tangible substance between soul and metal, and in the novels, it was a bubbling liquid-like substance used by Afton and injected from the core MAIN animatronics to the Funtime’s. In the games continuity, it is a tangible substance (or ‘Glowing orb’) that inhabited the endoskeletons of each animatronic that is possessed. Remnant can only be transmitted to another body in two ways: by injecting it into an animatronic or by melting down an animatronic that has remnant inside it and using it to create a new animatronic. Remnant has a sibling of its own, the final embodying version that’s shown in AR, the games, and books + novels is none other than its rivalry sibling “Agony”, the darkest form of remnant.
