Remy human hair is a type of human hair that is collected and sorted from various sources with the root and tip traveling in the same direction to ensure the cuticle does not tangle or matte. The cuticles are not stripped and remain aligned in one direction, which makes Remy hair more expensive and look more natural due to the tedious process that the hair goes through to not damage the cuticle. Remy hair can be either virgin or treated, and it often comes with highlights, lowlights, and color. The term "Remy" or "Remi" means that all the cuticles are intact and not stripped. This type of hair extension appears to be as natural as possible while maintaining its integrity to be lustrous, soft, shiny, and silky to the touch. In contrast, non-Remy hair has stripped cuticles, which causes tangling and matting. To mask this, some manufacturers use heavy silicone to make the hair appear shiny and healthy, but the silicone comes off as soon as you wash it, and the hair becomes lifeless and dull. Therefore, Remy hair is considered a higher quality option than non-Remy hair.
