Restrict is a feature on Instagram that allows users to limit how often they see comments and messages from certain accounts on their feed. It is a way to protect users from harassing, abusive, or annoying comments and messages on their profiles. Restricting an account is different from blocking, as it simply hides the comments and messages from the restricted account while still allowing them to view your posts.
When a user is restricted on Instagram, their direct messages won’t land in your inbox, and their comments on your posts won’t be visible to others (at least not right away). The restricted person can comment on your posts, but their comments will only be visible to others if you approve them. Also, when you restrict a user, they won’t be able to see whenever you are online, or you have read their messages.
To restrict an account on Instagram, users can follow these steps:
- Open the profile of the user you want to restrict.
- Tap the ellipsis (three-dot) icon at the top left corner.
- Tap “Restrict” from the pop-up menu.
Once an account is restricted, the chat with the restricted person will move from the main Direct inbox to Message Requests. Future messages from people that youve restricted will also be moved to Message Requests.
