Reuse is the practice of using a material over and over again in its current form, giving products a second life before they become waste. It is the second preferred waste management option after waste reduction. Reusing saves money, conserves resources, and satisfies the human urge to be creative. Many of the things we currently throw away could be reused again with just a little thought and imagination. Examples of reuse include:
- Containers can be reused at home or for school projects.
- Reuse wrapping paper, plastic bags, boxes, and lumber.
- Give outgrown clothing to friends or charity.
The goal of the 3 Rs of responsible waste management (reduce, reuse, recycle) is to educate people on how to prevent excessive and unnecessary waste, and to limit the consumption of non-renewable resources. Reuse is an essential component of environmentally-responsible consumer behavior.
