Revival in church refers to a spiritual reawakening from a state of dormancy or stagnation in the life of a believer or a group of believers. It is a time when there is a move of God in a group of believers that starts with an upward fixation on Christ, an inward consecration from sin, and an outward commitment to evangelism and missions. Revival meetings, also called revival services or church revivals, are religious services within the Christian church that are held to inspire or reawaken the spiritual vigor of a group of believers. The purpose of a church revival is to allow the power of the Holy Spirit to transform both believers and nonbelievers alike. Revivals can be initiated by a prompting of the Holy Spirit, creating an awareness of something missing or wrong in the believers life that can only be righted by God. The key features of revival include a love for God, an appreciation of Gods holiness, a passion for His Word and His church, a convicting awareness of personal and corporate sin, a spirit of humility, and a desire for repentance and growth in righteousness. Revivals serve two main purposes: to revitalize the spiritual life of its members and to gain new followers.
