• Rationalist Satanism: This is a trend in the Satanic milieu which is atheistic, skeptical, materialistic, and epicurean.

• Esoteric Satanism: This is a form of Satanism that draws upon ideas from other forms of Western esotericism, Modern Paganism, Buddhism, and Hinduism.

• Personal Satanism: This is the personal Satanism of individuals who identify as Satanists due to their affinity for the general idea of Satan, including such characteristics as viciousness and/or subversion.

It is important to note that modern Satanists do not actually worship the devil. Instead, they may view Satan as a symbol of pride, liberty, and individualism. The Satanic Temple, for example, encourages benevolence and empathy, rejects tyrannical authority, advocates practical common sense, opposes injustice, and undertakes noble pursuits. On the other hand, some individuals who identify as Satanists may justify criminal acts through a belief system centered in Satan.
