The movie spoofs several popular films, including Signs, The Ring, The Matrix, 8 Mile, and The Sixth Sense. The homicidal tape in Scary Movie 3 is a gag reel that spoofs The Ring. The movie also features references to Mama, a horror movie that came out in January of the same year.
