A Schottky defect is a type of crystal defect that occurs when some of the cations and anions in a crystal lattice are missing from their normal positions, creating vacancies. This defect is named after the German physicist Walter H. Schottky, who first described it in 1932. Schottky defects are commonly found in ionic crystals, such as NaCl, KCl, and CsCl. In Hindi, a Schottky defect is called "शॉटकी दोष".
