Security guard duty involves ensuring the safety and protection of a property and its personnel. Security guards are responsible for securing premises and personnel by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment, and inspecting buildings and equipment. They also control access points, permitting or prohibiting entry, and report any suspicious behaviors and happenings. Other duties and responsibilities of security guards include:

• Ensuring that guests sign in upon arrival and exit
• Making guests aware of rules that must be adhered to
• Removing trespassers or unwanted individuals from the property
• Investigating security breaches, incidents, and accidents
• Enforcing company policies, rules, and laws
• Controlling access to the building
• Monitoring surveillance systems and alarms
• Responding to alarms and reacting in a timely manner
• Providing assistance to people in need
• Submitting reports of daily surveillance activity
• Completing daily reports, including relevant information, observations, surveillance footage, and signatures
• Securing all exits, doors, and windows
• Investigating and taking the appropriate lawfully action as authorized by the corporate policy on accidents, incidents, trespassing, suspicious activities, safety, and fire incidents

Security guards must have physical strength and fitness, attention to detail, and prior experience as a security guard would be advantageous. They should also be trained in first aid/BLS and self-defense and registered as a security officer.
