Self-awareness is the ability to perceive and understand the things that make you who you are as an individual, including your personality, feelings, motives, and desires. It is not to be confused with consciousness in the sense of qualia. Self-awareness is how an individual experiences and understands their own character, feelings, motives, and desires. It is the ability to focus on yourself and how your actions, thoughts, or emotions do or dont align with your internal standards. Self-awareness is how you interpret your actions, feelings, and thoughts objectively. It is the ability to notice your feelings, physical sensations, reactions, habits, behaviors, and thoughts. Self-awareness is how you are aware of all those different aspects of yourself as if you were another person observing you. There are two broad categories of self-awareness: internal self-awareness and external self-awareness. Internal self-awareness represents how clearly you see your own values, passions, aspirations, fit with your environment, and reactions to different situations. External self-awareness is the ability to see yourself through the eyes of others and to understand how they perceive you. Developing self-awareness can help you clarify your values, thoughts, feelings, behaviors, strengths, and weaknesses. It can enable you to learn about yourself in a way no one else can ever teach you, manage yourself, and productively engage with other people.
