Sex Wax is a brand of surf wax that is used to coat the deck of a surfboard and provide traction between the surfers feet and the surfboard. It was first produced by Frederick Charles Herzog, III (also known as Mr. Zog) and chemist Nate Skinner in 1972. The wax is rubbed on the top surface or "deck" of a surfboard to allow traction and grip for the surfer. There are four types of Mr. Zogs Sex Wax used for surfing: original Sex Wax, Quick Humps, Really Tacky, and Navel Wax (body-boarding wax) . The waxes come in an assortment of aromatic fragrances and are available in a variety of formulas to accommodate different water temperatures.

The name "Sex Wax" was chosen by Herzogs artist friend Hank Pitcher, who designed the products original and inaugural label. The designer thought the name sounded fun, spicy, cool, and stuck in his mind. Herzog liked the idea because it was attention-grabbing, absurd, and a great spoof on Madison Avenues not so subtle attempts to use sex to sell a product. The name has led to some hilarious misunderstandings, some great stories, and some amazing letters from satisfied, but confused, customers.

In addition to surfboard waxes, Mr. Zog also makes a snowboard wax which is applied to the bottom of a snowboard to reduce friction between the snowboard and the snow. Mr. Zogs Sex Wax For Snowboards comes in two varieties--a "melt-on" application (available in three formulas for various snow conditions), and a "rub-on" application (available in one all-purpose formula suitable for most snow conditions) .

Mr. Zogs Sex Wax is also sold to ice hockey players. The wax is applied by rubbing it on over the tape on the blade of the stick. This does two things: it flattens the tape to allow a smoother shot, and it also makes the blade of the stick stickier, which helps hockey players control the puck for stick-handling, passing, and shooting purposes. Also, the wax acts as a surfactant, also called surface-active agent, to aid moisture dispersion from the blade during ice hockey sessions. In addition, some goaltenders rub the wax on the shaft of the stick to help them hold the stick when it is struck by hard shots, some of which exceed 100 MPH.
