Shadowless Pokémon cards are the earliest version of the 1999 English Base Set, and they are considerably more valuable than the Unlimited Base Set that was produced shortly after. The term "shadowless" refers to the earliest print runs of the original Base Set released in 1999 by Wizards of the Coast under the Pokémon Trading Card Game brand. Shadowless cards are from the Pokemon Trading Card Games second print run, and they do not feature the drop shadow effect to the right of the character portrait. If there is no shadow next to the yellow border, then the card is shadowless. If there is a shadow, then the card is from the unlimited print run. Shadowless Pokemon cards have a thinner red print compared to the unlimited versions. All 1st Edition cards are shadowless, except for the 1st Edition Base Set Machamp, which was always printed with the 1st Edition stamp, whether it was shadowless or not.
