Snuff is a type of smokeless tobacco product made from finely ground or pulverized tobacco leaves. It is typically sniffed or inhaled into the nasal cavity or held in the mouth, where nicotine is absorbed through mucous membranes. There are two main types: dry snuff, which is usually inhaled through the nose, and moist snuff, also known as dip or snus, which is placed in the mouth between the cheek and gums. Snuff can come in various flavors and scents and has been used since at least the 17th century. Although it is smokeless and associated with a lower risk of lung cancer compared to smoking, snuff still carries significant health risks, including increased chances of oral, esophageal, pancreatic cancers, gum disease, and heart disease. It is addictive due to nicotine content and is not a safe tobacco alternative.
