A social worker course is a program of study that prepares individuals to become licensed social workers. In Texas, there are three levels of social work licensure: licensed baccalaureate social worker (LBSW), licensed master social worker (LMSW), and licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) . The requirements for each level of licensure vary, but generally, a bachelors degree in social work or a related field is required for the LBSW, and a masters degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program is required for the LMSW and LCSW. In addition to completing the required degree, individuals must also pass the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) exam and complete field experience requirements. The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC) sets the standards for social work licensure and practice in Texas. Social workers practice in a wide variety of settings, united in their commitment to advocating for and improving the lives of individuals, families, groups, and societies.
