A special non-working holiday is a type of public holiday in the Philippines that is different from a regular holiday. There are two types of holidays in the Philippines: regular holidays and special non-working days. The main difference between the two is the pay that employers are required to pay their employees. On a regular holiday, if the employee did not work, the employee is entitled to 100% of their daily wage. However, special non-working days usually follow a "No Work, No Pay" principle, meaning that the employee is not entitled to any compensation if they did not work that day. If the employee works on the special non-working day, they shall be entitled to an additional compensation of 30% of the regular daily wage.

The Philippine government can declare a special non-working holiday for various reasons, such as to strengthen family ties and promote domestic tourism. The wage rules for special non-working holidays entail a "no work, no pay" policy for employees, unless a company policy, practice, or a collective bargaining agreement is already in effect. If an employee works on a special non-working holiday, they can get as much as 130% of their daily wage and an additional 50% if that day is their rest day.
