The F1 Sprint race is a shortened version of a normal race, taking place over a shorter distance of 100km. It was introduced in 2021 as a way to spice up the action and provide a new format to contrast the traditional grand prix weekend schedule. The F1 Sprint race is back for the 2023 season, and it will be held at six races throughout the year. The format of the F1 Sprint race is the same as in 2022, equivalent to a 100km race, with points on offer for the top eight finishers. The winner picks up eight points, second place scores seven points, and it continues descending down to eighth place with one point. The F1 Sprint race takes place on Saturday, and the Grand Prix takes place on Sunday as normal. The F1 Sprint race is designed to provide a short and fast-paced racing spectacle, similar to a Twenty20 cricket match, with drivers racing flat-out from start to finish without the need to pit. The F1 Sprint race is essentially a standalone event, where the Sprint Shootout and F1 Sprint do not impact the Grand Prix. The F1 Sprint race is a way to ensure a competitive session takes place on each day of the race weekend, with Qualifying on Friday, Sprint on Saturday, and Grand Prix on Sunday.
