Taboo is a word, guessing, and party game published by Parker Brothers in 1989 (subsequently purchased by Hasbro) ). The objective of the game is for a player to have their partners guess the word on the players card without using the word itself or five additional words listed on the card. The game is similar to Catch Phrase, also from Hasbro, in which a player tries to get their teammates to guess words using verbal clues).

Here are the basic rules of the game:

• Divide players into two teams.
• One player from the first team draws a card and tries to get their teammates to guess the word on the card without using the word itself or five additional words listed on the card.
• The player has one minute to get their teammates to guess as many words as possible.
• If the teammates guess the word correctly, the team earns a point.
• If the player uses a taboo word or phrase, they lose a point.
• Play then passes to the next team, and the game continues until all the cards have been used or a predetermined score is reached.

Taboo can be played with just the cards, a timer, and a buzzer, or there are also electronic versions of the game available. The game can be played with two or more players, and it is suitable for ages 13 and up.
