Tasleem or salaam is an essential part of Salah or prayer, and one cannot end or exit from the prayer without saying it. The word tasleem mentioned in the narration literally means to say as-salam. The necessary (wajib) amount is to merely say ‘as-salaam’ one time, but the emphasized sunna is to say as-salam alaikum wa rahmatullah. The Prophet (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “The key to prayer is purification, its commencement is by saying takbir (Allahu Akbar), and its conclusion is by saying taslim (i.e., saying salam)”.

When saying tasleem, the worshipper should turn their head to the right and say "As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmat-Allah" and then turn their head to the left and repeat the same phrase. If there is a group of others with the worshipper, then the salaam is upon them; if there is no group with the worshipper, then the salaam is upon the angels who are on their right and left.

There are various resources available to learn how to recite tasleem, including videos and articles. It is important to note that while saying ‘as-salaam’ once is sufficient for a valid prayer, it is prohibitively disliked to make a habit of leaving out the emphasized sunna without a valid excuse.
