TDR stands for Ticket Deposit Receipt, which is a process of claiming a refund for a booked train ticket that is canceled due to any reason as mentioned under the Indian railway’s guidelines. TDR is meant for people who do not undertake a train journey despite having a booked ticket and want to apply for a refund. IRCTC, the e-ticketing arm of Indian Railways, provides the facility for online filing of TDR. The refund process will take at least 60 days and more. TDR can be filed only in specific cases, such as if there was a change in reservation status, the passenger has traveled in a lower class, the train was diverted and did not touch the boarding station, or the passenger was wrongly charged by the TTE. Here are the steps to file TDR through IRCTC website:

  1. Login to your IRCTC Account.
  2. Click to Booked Ticket History.
  3. Select PNR for which TDR is to be filed and click "File TDR" Button.
  4. Select the passenger name from the ticket details for claiming TDR refund.

It is important to note that TDR should be filed within 30 days from the departure of the train. The refund is processed by the concerned Zonal Railway, according to the rules prescribed by the Railways. Once the refund is received from the concerned Zonal Railway, IRCTC credits the amount back to the customers account.
