Termite frass is the term used to describe the droppings or excrement of termites. Drywood termites live inside wood and have to find a place to deposit their droppings. To do this, they chew "kick-out" holes so they have an opening to push out their frass. Termite frass is composed of the digested wood that termites consume, and the droppings may be a light tan color or a darker brown, depending on the wood the termites infest. Drywood termite pellets are tiny, oval-shaped capsules with six concave sides and rounded ends, and they are about 1 millimeter in length. The pellets can form small mounds beneath kick-out holes and may look like small piles of salt or pepper. Subterranean termites usually use their excrements to build mud tubes that connect their colonies to the wooden substructures of your home, and their frass is liquid and can be formed into many of the structures subterranean termites need to find food.
