THCP, or tetrahydrocannabiphorol, is a naturally occurring phytocannabinoid found in cannabis plants in very low concentrations. It is structurally similar to THC, the main active component of cannabis, but with a longer side chain, which makes its cannabinoid effects "far higher than Δ9-THC itself". THCP is a potent phytocannabinoid and a CB1 and CB2 agonist, which was known as a synthetic homologue of THC, but for the first time in 2019 was isolated as a natural product in trace amounts from Cannabis sativa. Initial studies suggest that THCP could pack a punch with potency up to 30 times that of regular THC (delta-9) . THCP has a reported binding affinity of 1.2nM at CB1, approximately 33 times that of Delta-9-THC (40nM at CB1) . THCP is legal as long as it’s derived from hemp, but its psychoactive nature could change the legal status of this cannabinoid in the future. While THCP may provide a potent new high for recreational users, it could also offer new therapeutic benefits for medical patients, including pain relief, anti-nausea, anti-seizure, and aids in other disorders and discomforts.
