The Action button on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max is a button located above the volume keys that replaces the mute switch that had been on every iPhone since the very first one. It is customizable, allowing you to quickly perform actions like turning on the flashlight, opening the camera, recording a voice memo, and more. By default, the button acts as a direct replacement for the old mute switch, but you can change it to do a handful of other things in the iPhones Settings app. To customize the Action button, go to Settings > Action Button, and an image of the side of the iPhone appears with icons representing actions you can assign to the Action button. To choose an action, swipe to the action you want to use, and its name appears below the dots. If there are additional options for the selected action, they appear below the action, and you can tap them to see the list of options.

Some users have suggested having the Action button switch between actions depending on whether Do Not Disturb is enabled or when Low Power mode is toggled off and on. You can also use Shortcuts to get the most out of the Action button. For example, you can create a Shortcut that performs different actions depending on the orientation of the iPhone when its activated. Another way to use Shortcuts is to set the Action button to show a folder of your most frequently used Shortcuts.
