Bhabar is a term used in the context of physical geography and refers to a narrow belt of land that lies parallel to the Shiwalik range of the Himalayas in the northern plains of India. The width of this belt is about 8 to 16 km, and it is formed as a result of the deposition of pebbles and other sediments by the rivers that come down from the mountains. The belt runs in an east to west direction along the foot of the Shiwalik range of the Himalayas and is extensive in the western and north-western hilly region and comparatively narrow in the eastern hilly region. All the streams disappear in this belt, and south of this belt, the streams and rivers re-emerge and create a wet, swampy, and marshy region. This belt is not suitable for any agricultural activities, and big trees are found in this belt.
