The Jesuit Oath is an oath taken by Jesuit priests upon their induction into the higher levels of the Jesuit Order. The oath is also known as the Extreme Oath of Induction and is recorded in the Journals of the 62nd Congress, 3rd Session, of the United States Congressional Record. The oath includes a pledge of obedience to the orders of the General and Superiors of the Jesuit Order, as well as a pledge to execute the will of the Pope and faithfully fulfill the conditions of the oath. The oath also includes a promise to make and wage relentless war, secretly or openly, against all heretics, Protestants, and liberals, and to spare neither sex, age, nor condition. The oath has been the subject of controversy and criticism, with some claiming that it promotes violence and intolerance.
