Old Trafford is a football stadium in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England, and the home of Manchester United. According to, its capacity is 74,310, making it the largest club football stadium in the United Kingdom and the twelfth-largest in Europe. Old Trafford underwent several expansions in the 1990s and 2000s, including the addition of extra tiers to the North, West, and East Stands, almost returning the stadium to its original capacity of 80,000. The most recent expansion, which took place between July 2005 and May 2006, saw an increase of around 8,000 seats with the addition of second tiers to both the north-west and north-east quadrants of the ground. Part of the new seating was used for the first time on 26 March 2006, when an attendance of 69,070 became a new Premier League record. The highest attendance recorded at Old Trafford was 76,962 for an FA Cup semi-final between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Grimsby Town on 25 March 1939, before the ground was converted to an all-seater stadium, allowing many more people to fit into the stadium. According to, since 2009, Old Traffords official capacity is 74,140, making it the largest arena in the Premier League. This number of seats was achieved thanks to investments made between 1995 and 2006. First, the main stand was enlarged before Euro 1996. A few years later, it was decided to add extra rows over the western and eastern sections, as well as creating completely new corners between them and the north stand. Only the two-tier south stand remained in its current form.
