The capital of Bulgaria is Sofia. Sofia is the largest city in Bulgaria and is located at the foot of Mount Vitosha in the western part of the country. It is the seat of the executive, legislative, and judiciary bodies of Bulgaria, as well as all government agencies, ministries, the National Bank, and the delegation of the European Commission. Sofia was declared the national capital in 1879 and has a rich history dating back to the seventh century BC.
