The dry mode on an air conditioner is a setting that can be found on several ducted and split-type air conditioning units that can reduce humidity levels in a room. It is intended for days when the weather is humid but not too hot or too cold, and it can be activated with a single touch of a button on the remote control. When the air conditioner is in dry mode, it runs at a low speed to circulate cold refrigerant through the air conditioners evaporator coil. As the blower fan pushes warm, humid air over the evaporator coil, some of the moisture in the air condenses on the evaporator coil, reducing the humidity in the room. Unlike the standard cooling mode on an air conditioner, dry mode is not governed by the thermostats temperature reading, and it will stop running when the indoor temperature drops to a certain level. Dry mode is an efficient feature for regulating indoor humidity when outdoor humidity is high and for offsetting the extra moisture that is produced by lots of indoor traffic and moisture-generating activities.
