"The Eminence in Shadow" is a Japanese light novel series written by Daisuke Aizawa and illustrated by Tōzai. The story follows a boy named Cid Kagenō, who aspires to become a mastermind and rule the world from the shadows. After dying during his training, he is reincarnated into a fantasy world as Shadow, where he creates an underground organization to live out a fight against a made-up cult. However, he soon discovers that the cult is real, and they are not happy that his power fantasy has impeded their plans. The series has gained attention in the anime fan base due to its unique blend of comedy, action, and its memorable protagonist. The light novel and main manga have been licensed in North America by Yen Press.
