Kevlar is the synthetic fiber used to make bulletproof jackets. It was developed by an American scientist Stephanie Kwolek in the year 1965. Kevlar is heat-resistant and absorbs the energy of a bullet and extends it over a larger area. It is widely used in the modern generation of lightweight concealable body armors with drastically improved ballistic protection over their predecessors. Other fibers used in ballistic protection include Dyneema and Zylon.
