In Victoria, if you are enrolled to vote, you must vote in all Federal, State, and council elections. If you do not vote, you may get a fine. The fine for not voting in Victoria is $92. If you receive an Apparent failure to vote notice from the Victorian Electoral Commission, you will have an opportunity to explain why you didn’t vote. It is not a fine, but it’s important to reply to it. You will have 28 days to respond. If you dont pay your fine or contact the Victorian Electoral Commission to deal with it in another way, your matter will be referred to Fines Victoria. After that, you cant ask the Victorian Electoral Commission to review your fine, but you can ask Fines Victoria for a review. If you dont respond to the Apparent failure to vote notice or dont provide a valid and sufficient excuse, you will be issued an infringement of $92. If you receive an infringement notice, you must respond within 35 days by either paying the fine, requesting an internal review, or electing to go to court.
