The full form of ITI is Industrial Training Institute. ITI is a government training organization that provides technical and non-technical training to students who have just passed the 10th level and are interested in gaining some technical knowledge rather than higher education. The objective of establishing ITIs was to provide technical manpower to the rapidly growing industrial sector. ITIs in India provide ‘trades’ training programs, and every trade is based on a particular sector or skillset. The courses provided in the ITIs are designed to impart the skills in a trade, and after successfully completing the course, the students are required to undergo practical training in his or her trade in an industry for one or two years. The practical training in an industry is mandatory to appear for the National Council of Vocational Training (NVCT) certificate. The eligibility criteria to get admission in ITI are that the applicant must have passed 10th grade from a recognized board, or any other examination which is known as 10th standard, the candidate should have obtained at least 35 per cent aggregate, and the candidate’s age during the admission period must be between 14 and 40 years. ITI courses are divided into two types: Engineering trades and Non-engineering trades. The course duration of ITI is varied from 1 year to 3 years and depends on the trade opted by the candidate.
