The full form of NIA is National Investigation Agency. It is a specialized counter-terrorism law enforcement agency in India that was created by an Act of the Parliament of India in 2008. The agency is empowered to deal with the investigation of terror-related crimes across states without special permission from the states under written proclamation from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The NIA has concurrent jurisdiction which empowers the Central Agency to probe terror attacks in any part of the country, covering offenses, including challenge to the countrys sovereignty and integrity, bomb blasts, hijacking of aircraft and ships, attacks on nuclear installations. The NIA operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs and has jurisdiction across the entire territory of India, including its territorial waters and airspace.
