NSS stands for National Service Scheme, which is a public service program held by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India. It was launched in 1969 with the aim of developing the personality of students and young people through community services. NSS is a voluntary association of young students from colleges, universities, and at +2 level. The major objectives of NSS are to provide opportunities to students to participate in government-led community service programs and activities, and to render firsthand experience to young students in delivering community service. The NSS logo is inspired by the giant Rath Wheel of the world-famous Konark Sun Temple located in the Orissa state of India. The motto of NSS is "Not Me But You," which reflects the idea of democratic living and promotes the need for selfless service.
