The initials "GSH" on the Chicago Bears uniform stand for George S. Halas, the founder of the Bears franchise. Halas was not only the founder of the team, but he was also a player and head coach. His No. 7 jersey is one of 14 numbers the Bears have retired. The "GSH" patch was added to the left sleeve of every players jersey in 1984 to honor Halas after his death in 1983. The Bears are still owned by the Halas family, primarily by his daughter Virginia McCaskey. His grandson, George McCaskey, is the Bears current chairman.
