The Legend Rule is a rule in Magic: The Gathering that prevents players from controlling more than one Legendary permanent with the same name at the same time. Any permanent with the Legendary supertype, including artifacts, creatures, enchantments, planeswalkers, and lands, is bound by this rule. If a player controls two or more Legendary permanents with the same name, they must choose one of them and put the rest into their owners graveyard. However, there are some cards that allow players to bypass the Legend Rule, such as Sakashima of a Thousand Faces and Mirror Gallery. Lazav, Dimir Mastermind and Helm of the Host are other examples of cards that can create copies of Legendary creatures under different names or that arent Legendary, respectively, and thus bypass the Legend Rule. The Legend Rule is a state-based action, which means that it cannot be responded to with spells or abilities.
