The United States Marine Corps Birthday is celebrated every year on November 10th with a traditional ball and cake-cutting ceremony. On that day in 1775, the Continental Marines were established by the Second Continental Congress. Formal commemoration of the birthday of the Marine Corps began on November 10, 1921, because on that day, the Second Continental Congress resolved in 1775 to raise two battalions of Continental Marines. Before 1921, the birthday of the Corps had been celebrated on another date. The Corps celebrated its birthday, or Marine Corps Day, on July 11 from 1799 until 1921 when the date was permanently changed to November 10 to commemorate the establishment of the organization. The Marine Corps annual tradition celebrates the establishment of the organization on November 10, 1775, by the Second Continental Congress. The US Marine Corps will celebrate its 247th birthday on November 10, 2022.
