Prime Minister Narendra Modi has used several Sanskrit shlokas in his speeches and messages. The specific shloka that he referred to during the G20 presidency was "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," which means "The world is one family." This phrase is taken from the Hindu scripture the Maha Upanishad. During his address to the nation in April 2020, he recited the Sanskrit shloka "Utsaho balavanarya nastyutsahat param balam | Utsaharambhamatrena jayante sarvasampadah," which means "There is no force greater than our enthusiasm and spirit in this world. There is nothing in the world that cannot be achieved with this force". In a tweet on World Sanskrit Day, he wrote, "India’s priorities as Chair of the ‘G20’ are focused on preserving ‘One Earth’, creating harmony in ‘One Family’ and promising ‘One Future’". During the G20 Health Ministers Meeting, he recited a Sanskrit shloka that meant "Health is ultimate wealth and with good health every task can be accomplished".
