According to the Indian Red Cross Society, the minimum age to donate blood in India is 18 years old. This is consistent with the World Health Organizations guidelines, which state that blood donors must be aged between 18 and 65. However, in some countries, national legislation permits 16-17 year-olds to donate provided that they fulfill the physical and hematological criteria required and that appropriate consent is obtained. In India, the Indian Red Cross Society also requires that donors have a hemoglobin count that is not less than 12.5 g/dl and weigh at least 45 kgs. Other eligibility criteria for blood donation in India include being in good health at the time of donation and having a normal body temperature.
