"Us" is a 2019 horror film directed by Jordan Peele that follows a suburban family who goes on vacation and is attacked by a group of menacing doppelgängers). The protagonist, Adelaide, is haunted by an event in her childhood where she found a mirror version of herself. The films central metaphor of meeting a literal evil twin of oneself can be read as a commentary on race, but its also a pretty brilliant commentary on the problems individuals and society hide. The movies metaphor is so elastic that it could be interpreted as being about climate change, the 2016 election, or zombies. The films structure is complex, and the ending is open to interpretation. The movies themes include unity, inequity, class struggle, and the idea that we are all our own worst enemies. While the film does not seem to want to be read as social commentary in the same way Peeles previous film "Get Out" was, it still has a lot on its mind.
