The new dome in Las Vegas is called the MSG Sphere, which is now known as Sphere at The Venetian Resort. It is a massive entertainment venue that is located off the Las Vegas Strip and east of the Venetian resort complex. The Sphere is the worlds largest spherical structure and seats almost 18,000 people. It is a wonder of technology and engineering, and it is unlike anything that has been seen before. The Spheres dome alone weighs 13,000 tons and has a surface area of 220,000 square feet. The exterior of the structure is covered with 1.2 million hockey puck-sized LEDs, making it the worlds largest of its kind. The Sphere was designed by Populous, the global architecture firm behind many of the worlds top sports arenas. The venue will host music, film events, and some sports, and it is primarily designed for immersive experiences in cinema and performance. The Sphere is scheduled to open on September 29, 2023, with "U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere," a series of 25 concerts built around the Irish bands landmark 1991 album "Achtung Baby" and running through mid-December. The venue will also play host to exclusive screenings of Darren Aronofskys film Postcard From Earth, visuals of which will be shown on the vast screen of the globe starting October 6. The Sphere is on the street circuit for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix from November 16 to 18, 2023. The arena will primarily host live concerts and indoor sports events such as boxing and mixed martial arts.
