As of January 2023, the most advanced fighter jets in operation are the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, which entered service with the United States Air Force in December 2005; the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, which entered service with the United States Marine Corps in July 2015; and the Chengdu J-20, which entered service with the Peoples Liberation Army Air Force in March 2017. The F-35 is considered the most advanced fighter jet in the world, with advanced sensors and communication suites that operate close to the battlefield and enable pilots to execute their mission and come home safe. However, there are reports of a sixth-generation fighter jet that is currently in development and is expected to be the most advanced fighter jet ever created.
