The Nightmare Before Christmas is rated PG by the MPAA for some scary images. According to Common Sense Media, the movie has scary creatures in it, and characters take off their own heads and limbs. There are skeletons, nasty toys, and a creepy villain named Oogie Boogie. A Christmas tree even burns up. The movie is macabre, violent, and dark, and the main characters are dead and have eyes falling out with worms coming out and body parts that fall off. The film has a mix of amazing stop-frame animation and macabre images, and Tim Burtons creative world is populated by grotesque creatures, trimmed with a hocus-pocus collection of vampires, bats, and spiders, littered with bare-boned figures and dismembered body parts, threatened by an evil Oogie Boogie Man, and decorated with depictions of female victimization, torture, and poisoning. Overall, the movie is suitable for children and adults, but younger children might not understand the dark humor and might find some scenes disturbing.
