The Olympic motto is "Citius, Altius, Fortius" which is Latin for "Faster, Higher, Stronger". It was proposed by Pierre de Coubertin upon the creation of the International Olympic Committee and was introduced in 1924 at the Olympic Games in Paris. The original motto was meant to encourage athletes to give their best during competition. On July 20, 2021, the Session of the International Olympic Committee approved a change in the Olympic motto that recognizes the unifying power of sport and the importance of solidarity. The change adds the word "together" after an en dash to "Faster, Higher, Stronger". The new Olympic motto now reads in Latin "Citius, Altius, Fortius - Communiter" and "Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together" in English.
