The movie Us, directed by Jordan Peele, is a horror film that deals heavily in social commentary. The movie follows a suburban family who goes on vacation only to discover a group of doppelgangers are out to get them. The central metaphor of meeting a literal evil twin of yourself can be read as a commentary on race, but its also a pretty brilliant commentary on inequality. The movie constantly reminds its audience that America’s story is one of history perpetually being forgotten or overwritten. The twist ending of the movie reveals that Adelaide is actually Red, her Tethered clone. The movie has a lot on its mind, and it will remain ideal for rewatches. The films structure sprawls endlessly, and its five different puzzles mixed up in the same box. The movie has a great creepy atmosphere thanks to the concept of doppelgängers, which is used brilliantly.
