The prequel to Yellowstone is a series called "1883". It follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. The series is set about 125 years before Yellowstone and takes us back to where and when the Duttons started their legacy. The show stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton, the great-great-grandparents of John Dutton III (Kevin Costner’s character in Yellowstone) . The series is created by Taylor Sheridan, who also co-created Yellowstone, and its his first television series as showrunner. The prequel finally gave us a real look at what awaits on the road ahead, with a full trailer packed with gunslinging, tensions on the trail, and plenty of family drama. The first season of "1883" premiered on December 19, 2021, and is available to stream exclusively on Paramount+ .
