The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is a government-aided institute and deemed university for the study and research of space science, located in Thiruvananthapuram, India. The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral programs in broad areas of space science, technology, and applications. The major theme of IISTs research portfolio is the application of cutting-edge science to generate new technology. The research at IIST is carried out in the spheres of theory and experiments, and the focus of the Institute is on strong interdisciplinary and collaborative work both within the departments as well as across the various centers of ISRO. The Institute recognizes the importance of research in developing future technologies and applications of space research. IIST encourages all its faculty members to guide and supervise young scholars under the PhD program as well as for Post-Doctoral programs. The research at IIST is built on the foundations of various academic programs run by the Departments of Aerospace, Avionics, Chemistry, Earth and Space Sciences, Humanities, Mathematics, and Physics.
